Welcome Conrad Benetti!
The big day has arrived! My whole pregnancy I was planning to do a repeat c-section, the recommendation to do that is at 39weeks (10/18) so you don't go into labor. It's easier to do a c-section on a non-laboring uterus. At my 37 week appointment- I was 3cm. As a labor and delivery nurse, I'd be silly to have a surgery again since I had a, what we call, favorable cervix. The reason I had a section with Branko was because his heart rate kept dropping and he did not tolerate labor or pushing. I somehow got to 10cm with him, but didn't get the chance to actually push him out. When I made the decision to go ahead with an induction, my OB said to keep it the same day/time.. so we did!
Our room was nicely decorated by my co-workers!
Okay, here is the very last pic of the belly
We arrived at 6AM, pitocin started at 630, bag of water broke around 1115, epidural around noon, 10 cm at 4, and baby at 510! My last shift was the night before, so it was strange seeing my co-workers in the beginning of their shift as a nurse and then a patient at the end of their shift. I think I got about 5 hours of sleep this night; I had been sleeping horribly for a few weeks. Repositioning in bed was a chore, to say the least.
My actual OB was able to make it for delivery and be with me, just had to adjust her afternoon schedule a bit! My epidural was very dense, and I couldn't feel anything, nor move myself.
Meet Conrad Benetti Donovan!
7lb 3 oz-21.25in! Born at 5:10 PM!
Tears were shed by both, and I am so dang proud of myself!
Here we are with Dr. Lovell! We didn't get to take this picture with her and Branko.
Branko doesn't look too thrilled facetiming with his brother.
Here we are with my co-worker, Becky. She has 3 boys of her own.
Who's who?
Branko left, Conrad right
We were up just about every 45 min the first night, Conrad had a lot of fluid in his lungs and he kept spitting up and sounding like he couldn't breathe. Eventually our nurse took him to the nursery to deep suction him and that did the trick.
We facetimed Branko in the morning, he looked even more upset! This picture cracks me up!
Conrad's first bath!
Loved his hair/head being washed.
A few of my co-workers came to visit. Here is Linda, she precepted me when I became a nurse on labor and delivery!
I got a picture of Branko similar to this, but Conrad was difficult to get into position to show off his sneakers made by Auntie Karen.
Getting ready to go home! We went home when Conrad was 24 hours old and got Lotus for pick up. I finally was able to eat sushi again!
I had a cute outfit for him but couldn't find it in the messy suitcase and just wanted to be home, sooo here is his going home outfit! Second child...
Lots of gagging and choking on amniotic fluid during the car ride home so we had the light on in the car the whole time. But we made it home safely!
Since we didn't get home until closer to 830, Branko stayed the night at my parents. So my mom brought Branko over the next morning to meet his little bro. Branko picked out this onesie at a festival we went to. This onesie didn't fit for very long! And it was actually big on him initially!
Grandma gets to meet Conrad!
All buckled in and getting ready to go to his first pediatrician appointment! His weight got down to 6lb 11oz, but we were still in the clear that we didn't have to go back to the office until after the weekend for a weight check. Branko was not very happy to be back at the peds office, he screams as soon as we walk in, we just have to remind him that we're there for Conrad!
First picture of me and the boys
My mom picks up Nora from school and she had a half day this day, so she got to have a special visit with Conrad. Branko slept during her whole visit!
We had a nice long Indian summer this year, it made the transition so much easier as we were able to spend time outside.
This kid loves raspberries
Had to dress in all the halloween gear while we could!
Getting pictures with the boys will never get old!
Had to take a screen shot of our Indian Summer! Especially since it was cold/windy and in the 30s the day Conrad was born!
First bath at home!
